Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
Effective July 1, 2018, the Pittsgrove Township School District revised its Harassment,
Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Policy 5131.1 to reflect New Jersey Administrative Code
6A:16-7.7 which amended the requirements regarding how district boards of education must
address and investigate incidents of harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) of students, as
well as defined the timelines for parents to file an appeal to the District Board of Education.
The Pittsgrove Township School Board of Education and Administration believe that educating
children is a shared responsibility between the parent/guardian and the school community.
Students will not be harassed because of their race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin,
gender, sexual orientation, including gender expression or identity, mental or physical disability
or other distinguishing characteristics.
As per New Jersey Statute, Title 18A:37-1 through 19, the consequences for any pupil who
commits acts of harassment, intimidation or bullying may range from behavioral interventions up
to and including suspension or expulsion. However, the Chief School Administrator may modify
a pupil’s removal on a case-by-case basis. In addition, the appropriate law enforcement agency
may be notified.
To ensure that the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying policy is understood, please read the
district policy online at www.pittsgrove.net
